Every new year, we begin by approaching our life with a fresh start. We make goals and resolutions. By mid January, most have given up and towards the beginning of February, our goals are already in the past.
Why do so many people never reach new levels? Why do they give up so fast? Well, from a spiritual and biblical perspective, there are very helpful lessons straight of scripture. Consider the following to begin having a new perspective and increase your chance in achieving your goals.
1. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses
According to scripture, we are all born with a unique ability or gift that we can use. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
If this is true and we believe that it is, then concentrate on what you are good at doing. If you are 5'2 and your goal is to dunk a basketball, then you might be disappointed. However, if you happen to be the same height, but you are an amazing singer, then your goal might be to record a song.
The lesson here, know what you are good at doing and develop your goal from there. Make sense?
2. Accept who you are!
If you are a believer, then you must know that you were created by a powerful and almighty God .
Ephesians 2:10 ESV For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
There is another version that might inspire you -
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
So, accept who you are so that you don't get frustrated with yourself. This will go along way in achieving your goals.
3. There will be obstacles.
At whatever stage of life, we learn early on, that obstacles of many kinds can get in the way of a good goal. Rarely things are smooth when we are starting something new. Dark forces of the world also hold you down so that you get discouraged.
Knowing this helps develop the right mindset in achieving your goal. So get prepared. Finally, obstacles are almost always learning opportunities. Even if it is "Learning what NOT to do". So embrace the lessons and get closer to your goal.
